1986 – Indy 500 MSX

This game clearly began life as a FIA Formula 1 game, but was rebranded to “Indy 500” prior to release. Which is particularly odd considering the MSX system was never released in the USA and this game was really only for those outside the US, where Indy 500 is less well known. There is a 1986 version for the MSX computer platform which would count as the first attempt at rendering an Indy game in 3d, although very slowly with a lot of flicker. Later a port (I guess we’ll call it a port, it’s clearly a whole different base game) was published by Methodic for the Atari ST. This version still has F1 driver and team names!
